Pulse Oximeter Import Checklist for Korea: Sensors, Patients and Measurement Conditions
A finger-clip appearance does not determine the Korean import route or evidence needed. Define medical purpose, patient population, sensor combinations and measurement conditions, then check the supporting performance evidence.
Before considering price, establish who measures, with which sensor and in which circumstances. This guide addresses product introduction evidence, not patient-specific interpretation or diagnostic thresholds.
1. Fix the Korean intended use
MFDS safe-use information distinguishes medical-purpose products from exercise and recreational products. Neither an overseas wellness label nor locally added health-management wording settles status. Review the actual functions and disease-related claims across sales pages, packaging and instructions.
Resolve a catalogue claiming home use when the performance documentation covers only trained healthcare professionals. Distinguish spot measurement, continuous observation and alarm functions. The registration route and evidence scope should follow those actual specifications.
2. Manage the main unit and sensor as a combination
For detachable sensors, list each sensor code against compatible main units. Beyond attachment style, record patients, body site, single-use or reusable status and cable information.
| Review axis | Manufacturer information | Question |
|---|---|---|
| Population | Intended ages and patient groups | Do tested and marketed populations align? |
| Sensor | Code, design, contact material, site | Was this combination verified? |
| Range | Display range and claimed accuracy range | Is display range being mistaken for verified range? |
| Conditions | Claimed stationary or movement conditions | Is there evidence for each condition? |
| Alarms and records | Alarm settings, storage, transmission | Are additional functions separately identified? |
| Software | Version, processing, app role | Are tested and released versions connected? |
If one report is said to cover all sensors, inspect its test article list and scope. A shared connector alone does not justify adding a sensor.
3. Trace accuracy claims back to report conditions
An accuracy number cannot be assessed alone. Check the measurement range, reference comparison, subjects and sensor combination. Reports should identify methods, samples, results and limitations, and support the proposed Korean intended use.
Simulator evidence used for functional checks may serve a different purpose from evidence supporting measurement performance in people. Do not automatically substitute one for the other. See the foreign test report guide and assess the applicable tests and submission scope for the actual device.
4. Connect interference factors to instructions and risk management
MFDS information addresses conditions such as strong ambient light, nail condition and movement. Compare those general considerations with product-specific instructions and establish which conditions the manufacturer evaluated. General advice does not imply identical numerical limits for every model.
Distinguish guidance when no result appears from guidance when a displayed result is outside reliable operating conditions. Explain device scope and limitations without adding unsupported treatment decisions. For home models, connect screen and warning comprehension to usability review.
5. Match power and communication options to the released product
Disposable batteries, rechargeable operation and wireless transmission can alter configuration and evidence questions. Establish the role of chargers, USB connections, apps and external displays. Where radio functions exist, review applicable radio requirements separately from medical device registration.
Check inconsistencies such as stating that wireless functions will not be used while the released app connects automatically. Review photographs, labels, screens and the final component list together. Agree with the manufacturer how future sensor changes will be communicated before ordering.
6. Close unsupported claims before purchase
The final matrix should connect intended use, population, main unit and sensor, condition-specific claims, supporting reports and unresolved items. Do not publish an unsupported claim while evidence remains missing; determine whether to obtain evidence or narrow the claim. Base business, item registration and quality preparations on the resulting configuration.
Bring the instructions, main unit and sensor list, and available reports to request a pulse oximeter import review. Clare Partners can first check whether the evidence matches the intended scope.

Frequently asked questions
- Q. Can a recreational product be imported for medical use?
- Changing its description is insufficient. Establish the Korean device classification and registration route and provide safety and performance evidence for the intended medical use.
- Q. Can an adult report cover a pediatric sensor?
- Do not apply it automatically. Patient population, sensor design and attachment conditions can differ, so verify that the report represents the proposed combination and population.
- Q. Does a simulator result establish accuracy?
- Check the purpose and scope of the test. Do not equate functional checks with evidence of accuracy under actual use conditions; map evidence to each claim.
